Talk: EVF Evaluation
Hi everyone,
apart from the specs, there might be some experience that anyone wants to share. I've been using a Zacuto EVF Flip + Z-finder for the last 3 years. I bought the EVF because I was using the Z-finder already on my Canon 5D Mark II. I used it so much that I sticked the frame to my camera instaed of using other means to attach the Z-finder to my camera. I bought the EVF later to make it easier to use DSLR's and other camera's (I'm currently filming with a Canon C100) shoulder mounted or on steadycam (see full rig with links). I find the Zacuto easy to focus with, even with F1.4, and it has the same great features found on most EVF's (zebra, false color, audio levels), etc. From what I know from suppliers in The Netherlands is that you can always send it back if you don't like it. It's not consumer stuff that you have to keep if you open the box.
On the demands:
- visual performance is key: 800 *480 is a pretty low resolution, but I do not find this a problem for the use of it
- Adjustable Diopter: the Z-finder is limited in its adjustability. I wear -3 glasses and am just unable to really use it without glasses. The Z-finder is comfortable enough to use with glasses.
- Brightness and contrast are very good, but I have little experience with other EVF's to compare it with. I've never had issues with footage that looked different on my EFV than on camera. I trust the Zacuto more than the LCD of the Canon C100.
